I've always been someone with high sleep needs. But what gives? I've never met anyone like me and I'm wondering if others have something similar, or where it comes from.
I'm now firmly in middle age and fall asleep watching television or movies. It's a bit of a running joke between my husband and I, but really, it's always happened. Even during college and before work in healthcare. I've had sleep studies done (optimal sleep!), I've seen neurologists, I've had my blood panels done, and everything is normal. I'm very active (run, bike, and swim several times a week), eat well, and read lots of books. I don't drink excessive caffeine (in fact only one cup of half caf per day, first thing in the morning). I don't wake up tired, and don't have excessive daytime sleepiness. I work in an active job that requires my brain (I'm a midwife and have transitioned to outpatient only, so no longer do nights) and I excel in my profession. But the minute I lie down and put my head on a pillow, I'm asleep, like a babydoll whose eyes close when you lay them horizontally. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this. |
