What's a good alternative to jeans?
I know, that's a really broad question. I'm in my mid-50s, and have worn Levi's pretty much constantly since I was in my teens. 501's at first, then as my body became, well, what it is now, I'm in the habit of wearing the 502's with stretch elastane, and I like them pretty well.
But as I am wont to do, I just wore through the crotch of yet another pair, and as we get into the summery months, I thought to myself "self, maybe there's something better than denim!". Denim is great but it can get sweaty in the peak of summer. But there are so many choices, and I've never really made those choices, that I'm absolutely bewildered by what direction to go.
I would be wearing these pants in pretty much every type of situation - work (I work from home most days, but I do go into the office maybe once every couple weeks), going to sporting events/concerts/restaurants, just hanging around, walking to and from the store, traveling now and again. These would be just pretty much literally everyday pants. I live in Portland, OR; I'm not fancy, nor are the places I go. I won't need "this could go with a blazer or a dress shirt" pants. Think more bike-commute-to-brewpub level style.
I do have a pair of these that I wear when I fly, that I don't mind; should I be looking for something similar to this? Should I be looking for chinos? Other types of pants? I just don't know.
I never ever ever tuck in shirts. I mostly wear button front shirts, t-shirts in the summer, and a lot of hoodies/jackets in the colder months. Y'know, middle age dude stuff. I am the stereotype and I need pants. |
