If I'm recording raw audio with no effects added on my interface or DAW, should the audio I hear in my headphones while recording be the same as what I hear in playback?

I have 2 audio interfaces. On my old interface when I record raw audio and monitor myself on my headphones the sound is generally the same as what I hear in playback via my DAW. On my new interface when I monitor myself recording raw audio, the sound in my headphones sounds a bit hyped up. Almost like there's compression on there...but there isn't anything added. When I play back the audio, it sounds great...as intended with no compression and no hyped up sound. Any thoughts as to what may be causing the hyped up sound while recording and monitoring in my headphones
