How easy is it to get from the airport to the downtown hotel core via airport shuttle or public transit and ride share (my least preferred)? It seems difficult.

I am planning a weekend trip to Austin to visit extended family driving in from other TX cities, so they will have cars to drive us around once we congregate. Therefore I need to know how easy it is to get to downtown via airport shuttles or public transit. It seems difficult.
