Help my pick an iPhone

For reasons too boring to get into at the moment, I'm unexpectedly upgrading my iPhone 14 Pro Max. Only problem is that I don't quite know which model of iPhone to choose -- it's between the 16 Plus and the 16 Pro Max. Help me pick.

To be clear, I'm choosing only between the 16 Plus and the 16 Pro Max -- 16 Pro is not an option because it's too small.

So I've been very happy with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. (For the purposes of this question, please assume that keeping it is not an option, period.) Only thing is, I always thought maybe the Pro Max edition was, well, a bit too much phone for me. I'm a woman, so I don't have to keep it in my pocket, so the size isn't a problem. But I don't take a huge amount of photos or videos, and I don't need to have the ultra top quality photos and videos -- just sort of average is fine when I'm just taking photos of my cats and so on.

The thing that concerns me is that I'll feel like it's a downgrade to go from a Pro version to a base version. I also do need good battery life, and I'm seeing some conflicting information online as to whether the 16 Plus or the 16 Pro Max has better battery life.

Is there a huge difference between the 16 Plus and the 16 Pro Max that's going to make me regret not springing for the Pro Max? I'm thinking that maybe the Pro Max will be better if I want to hang onto the phone for four or five years without upgrading because it will run iOS 26 (or whatever they said was going to be the next iteration of the iOS -- I forget what number it will be) better when the time comes. But I don't really know. I don't know a lot about processors and chips and such, so I could use some help on that score.

I'd be especially interested in hearing from anyone who changed from a 14 Pro Max to any other version of iphone 16, but everyone should feel free to weigh in.
