What would you have done, baby bird question #62

While walking my dogs at lunch, I happened to see a live tiny baby bird on the ground under a bush. It is super tiny like no point trying to take it to a rescue. It was mostly bald with some wing feathers. Its legs were feebly kicking, and ants were starting to climb on it.
I tried in vain to find a nest, ANY nest. I would have picked it up and put it in the nest and not touched the dogs or anything and washed my hands. But I could not find any nest in the bushes or nearby trees. So, no nest option.
My choices seemed to be: leave it and let nature take its course. in fact, I'd seen two other even smaller bird bodies (dead) in about the same spot.
Option 2: put it out of its misery with a rock.
I just left it. I feel terrible about it. I thought about killing it, but did not.
Would you? : *(
