Pittsburgh to Manhattan, over land. Where to ditch the car?

Partner and I are driving to NYC in a few weeks for mixed business and fun. We're staying in midtown, near Rockefeller Center. Where should we park the car and switch to... some other form of transit?

It's been something like a decade since I visited the city, and on that occasion I stayed in Brooklyn. I've never driven into Manhattan, and have recently been advised not to. We'll need to park the car somewhere for four days, and use some other means to get to the hotel. Can you help us figure out last leg of our journey
