How to frame picture for videoconference background?

How do I take a photograph so it will be best suited as a videoconference background image? For example: Do I hold the camera down near desk-height, or higher, or lower? Wide focus or narrow? Sharp focus or soft?

I love to use travel snapshots of nature or street scenes for Zoom/Teams backgrounds. But sometimes the image seems a little "off," and I can't put my finger on why.

Thanks for any advice!
