How to train her Dragon

My wife is considering incorporating Nuance Dragon speech recognition software into her workflow. Or at least something similar. It's likely that she'll end up going with Dragon but we want to do our due diligence and see what alternatives are out there that people use. It's not a type of software I know much about so I'm not much help to her in this situation. So, I turn to the hivemind.

So, do you use Dragon and do you feel like it was worth the expense? How long did it take to train to a usable state?

Do you use something other than Dragon and would you recommend it?

Any suggestions about mics or does the computer's built-in mic do the job?

We're interested in general opinions and recommendations from anybody using Dragon or other software which fills a similar niche. My wife is a translator (English to French) so we're also particularly interested in recommendations from other translators or people in similar jobs. Of particular interest is how well Dragon, or whatever you use instead, integrates with her work software Trados Studio.

This also means that, necessarily, any software she ends up using should be usable in French. If it can handle both French and English at the same time that would be a huge bonus but not a necessity.

My wife has a Mac but runs her work software from a separate Windows partition via Parallels and she's wondering how Dragon, or whatever (also on the Windows partition) will effect performance so if anyone has a similar setup that would also be good to hear about.

Many thanks in advance!
