I know nothing about iPhones

My wife's new insulin pump needs a cell phone and bluetooth. We are Android people, but I think we need to switch her to iPhone for this. Help!

Medtronic is not good at keeping up with Android versions. The most recent version they work with is 10. On paper, my Moto G7 should work, but it doesn't, maybe due to it being Amazon's version of Android. The user forums are full of people constantly struggling with Android phones, but the iPhone folks report no problems. I suspect having one OS provider versus dozens make things easier.

So, I need to buy her an iPhone, but the only Apple product I have ever purchased in my life is my daughter's Macbook. I do not want to spend $1000 on a brand-new iPhone. What will give her comparable performance to a Moto G8 with 64GB of onboard storage and 4 GB RAM? Will a refurb iPhone 8 with 64 GB be good for her?

Second question - anywhere better to buy refurb iPhones than Amazon? Apple only sells the most recent models on their site, lowest refurb available now being over $600.

Note - it's the reporting and data sharing with her doctor features that need the app. I don't think anything medically important needs a phone connection. I hope.
