Allowances (and chores?) for a 12 year old

I'd like to formalize these for a 12-year-old kiddo. He's helpful anyway (and also gets presents and treats), but I think a more structured allowance (attached to chores or not) would help him to budget. But either way, how much might suitable weekly? Any examples are welcome - thank you!

Location - US. I know everyone has different ideas about this, all are welcome here! And I found this and this, previously, to be useful.
