| This was voted by the local critics as the best Slovak film of all time. It's a fascinating art documentary where old villagers from isolated Carpathian Mountains talk about their life. Most of these rural folks are toothless, uneducated, primitive farmers, who "haven't been deformed by civilization." They recount interesting stories of lonely and unhappy lives, and many have only one last animal to keep them company. Dušan Hanák, the director, keeps trying to solicit an answer for lessons they had learnt out of life, but they have no idea what he's after. It's unadorned, poetic and harsh. It's available for free viewing on YouTube. |
