Objects in the mirror are waspier than they appear

After a 3 month absence, I returned home to discover a family of wasps has taken up residence behind the side-view mirrors of my car. I'm afraid to look under the hood to see if they've built nests in there as well. What do I do??
I noticed it as I was driving -- thinking it strange that two wasps were clinging to my sideview mirror as I was going 40MPH down the road. I used the motorized mirror to angle the mirror back and forth to try and shake them free, and half a dozen MORE wasps emerged from behind the mirror - but none flew away, they just hunkered back down in their hiding space.
I'd like to be able to travel with the windows down and not have to worry about stinging creatures flying into my car! Not sure how best to handle this situation - and I live in a rural area with now exterminators.
