What is a film seminar

Have you attended the Flaherty Film Seminar? How (what) was it?

The idea of this gathering and event holds a mysterious power over me. I don't fully understand what it is or how it works, but it seems like a place/event/institution where people gather together, all watch the same documentaries that are curated around different themes each year, and discuss and interact with the films. This sounds... amazing to me? But what exactly is it really like and who attends? Can I be part of this? Do I want to?

How are participants chosen? Is it mostly grad students and undergrads? Is it mostly people in the arts/film world? I'm a 51 year old nurse with zero formal education in this field.

If I have it right, screenings are also open to the public (not just seminar participants), but this year it's in Vermont not NY City, so, not sure it would make sense to go to Vermont unless I was actively participating?

Tell me everything you know about this event please!
