I'm in a role at a university with increased fundraising responsibility - both from individuals (alumni and others), corporate donors, and from private foundations - large and small. What commentary have you found insightful?

I've done a lot of grant fundraising in the past, but now I'm also moving into gift fundraising. I'm generally looking for analytical/perspective about how to think about strategy and tactics, not the basics, but I'm open to whatever has been useful to you.
- what type of asks work best
- when to ask
- how to think about relationship maintenance - what creates connections?

Interested in all types of donor:
1) alumni, individual, and corporate for a program at a university
2) private foundation support for specific public interest projects of the academic program.
