I got a new (used) laptop and everything was going great with the installations from my Time Machine backup of my dying older laptop. There were two programs that I need for my work that didn't automatically work in the backup installation, and I had to go get my copy of Word from the MS site, but everything seemed fine. I cannot, however, get Adobe Acrobat 2020, which I have the license for, to install.
I can't figure it out and I'm not very good with this sort of thing. The link to download the program (from when I initially purchased it through my friend's discount, who worked for Adobe) is apparently no longer valid, so that's not great, but I figured I could at least open the app and use the key, since it looks like the app is there, just, I guess, whatever makes it run or installs it isn't? But it just opens Acrobat, asks for my passwords, tells me everything is invalid (I keep changing the passwords and accounts, and yet neither my main password nor my backup account/password will work) and then it closes automatically.
Obviously I can't buy this again, Adobe no longer allows standalone copies of Acrobat. I was able to install this on my new iMac desktop a couple years ago, after a little bit of trouble, and have been able to use it there, but I generally work on my laptop because of my ill health. That's also the reason I want to continue using this version--I can't afford a subscription and I really don't want to do that, since I have an incurable cancer and don't really know how long I'm going to be able to keep working.
I still have a working copy on my dying laptop that I transferred everything from, and if I have to, this job coming in a couple days can be done on that, although it makes me nervous since it's unreliable (which is why I got the newer one). But is there a way to actually transfer the Acrobat program and get it to work on the new laptop? Like I said, I have the product key, and I know the sign-ins for my accounts (well, sort of, they keep making me change the passwords, it's irritating). I just can't seem to get Acrobat to any place where I can input the product key and prove that I own the copy (it was for two installations).
I'm sorry I'm so dumb about this stuff. Maybe it's not even possible. |
