How set up my solo aging successfully?

I want to plan in advance for as seamless a solo aging setup as possible. What should I be thinking about/preparing for?
I'm only 45, but here are the facts: I don't have kids and will never have them. I have one sibling who also doesn't have kids. Not close to any extended family. Single currently, which could change of course but I'm not counting on that. I own a condo and never, ever want to own a house. I live in a city (U.S.) and will remain in a city (also, unfortunately, probably in the U.S.). I'll have a pension, retirement account, and good medical benefits. I currently have a few solid friends who I can rely on for help, but that's not a given in the future and they're about my age anyways.
So. If you're in a similar boat or know someone who is, what kinds of things are you thinking about? Financially, medically, etc. |
