What should I read to my kids next?

I just read Anne of Green Gables out loud to my two kids, 8 and 11. They LOVED it. What should I read to them next?

I loved that Anne of Greene Gables had an overtly feminist viewpoint, fully developed child characters, a historical setting that led to lots of discussion about how things used to be, and higher level vocabulary.

I thought of Little Women, but not having read it in a while I wonder if it will be interesting to them at this age? What else would hit the same criteria as above? Modern books that also address racial inequalities, interesting philosophical ideas, or similar would work as well.

All ideas welcome! Thanks so much for your help.
