sugar, alcohol, and facial swelling

Am I imagining things or does consumption of LOW/MODERATE amounts of sugar and alcohol make my face (under eyes especially but everywhere) look puffy? If this happens to you, what have you tried (besides quitting)?

I know that both substances are said to cause inflammation in general, but that word gets thrown around a lot and I don't know if that's the same mechanism as what I would describe as facial (mostly lower eye) edema.

I notice it whenever I have processed sweets (like a cupcake or candy bar) along with an alcoholic drink (yes, only one drink, of any type - typically a hard seltzer or a glass of wine), which is not super frequent for me (say 1-2x a month while socializing) but it is a special treat I enjoy.

I'm trying to determine if this an an allergic reaction, intolerance, or something else. I'm someone who can easily practice moderation but don't really want to do full abstinence if I don't have to. But if it really is the reason I look puffy, my vanity might get the best of me.

Note I don't consume high sodium, I get plenty of sleep, and I'm not talking about genetic eye bags that are always present. I do have pet allergies managed with medication including antihistamine eyedrops.

I've heard of a remedy using jade rollers, gua sha, or face massage to drain the fluid and wonder if thats effective (say something I could do when I get home or the next morning) as well as being more hydrated when I indulge? Or is it time to quit.
