My iPhone was stolen. What next?

My iPhone was stolen today. I have reported it missing via Find my Phone and am tracking its location. What next?

I'm a teacher. It was stolen off my desk by a student (there were witnesses) who then left it in a washroom from whence it disappeared. I went home, used the find my phone app and declared it missing, and have been tracking it since.

What can I do next? Are police actually likely to recover it if I give the address? Is there any way they can wipe the phone and use it, or does me declaring it lost prevent this? If it stays missing past tomorrow, are there steps I need to take to further protect my privacy should the phone not be recovered?

I'm with Koodo (Toronto filter) if that helps.
