My new lock won't... lock

I replaced a double cylinder deadbolt with a new one of the same make and model. I got it installed, but the outside lock won't engage or disengage the bolt at all, and the inside engages the bolt but I cannot remove the key when the bolt is engaged, I have to unlock the door. What did I do wrong???
