did you attend a college in the sun belt conference? what was it like?

For college football fans, the Sun Belt conference has been the story of the season so far. I have some theories why, but I don't actually know any alumni of the Sun Belt schools, so I can't talk to anyone to validate or refute my hypotheses. So I'm turning to you. If you went to Marshall, Old Dominion, James Madison, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Troy, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Arkansas State, or Texas State, come talk to me.

I'm interested in hearing what your application/decision process was like, and what campus life was like while you were there:

-Why did you apply to the school(s) you applied to?
-Why did you choose one of these schools instead of a comparable school (e.g., why Appalachian State instead of UNC-Asheville or South Alabama instead of UAB)?
-Did you live on campus or commute? What about other students?
-Were football games a big part of the campus experience? What else was part of campus life?
-How did you/other students relate to other, larger flagship schools in the state (e.g., if you went to Georgia State, did people still cheer for UGA too)?
-As an alum, do you still feel connected to the school? Like, do you still own and wear a college t-shirt?
-Would you recommend your college to someone currently in high school?

Anything else you'd like to share would be helpful. This is a group of colleges I know almost nothing about aside from football. Without revealing too much of my hypothesis, I suspect that non-football characteristics of colleges affect the quality of the football team, but I don't know enough about the non-football characteristics of these schools to say.

Obviously these are only a handful of schools, and I don't know how many MeFites are alumni, so I'm open to secondhand stories as well. Or if you're a grad student or faculty/staff member at one of the schools. Or heck, even if you applied to one of them but went elsewhere. I'm just trying to get a sense of what these schools are like.
