Need Photos I take on my phone backed to the cloud, now!

How can I get photos on my Android phone to upload to Google immediately after taking them, without any action on my part?

There is a setting or trick or something that will cause photos to upload immediately. I've had it on every phone I've previously had and distinctly remember reading the tip and following it years ago. For the first time ever, the setting did not transfer to my new phone, a Note 20 Ultra and I can't figure it out.

It's driving me crazy -- the photos upload randomly, time-wise. Sometimes 5 minutes later, sometimes hours, even if I go into Google Photos and click Backup Now.

With my previous phones (mostly earlier Notes), I could take a photo, open my laptop, go to photos.google.com and the picture would already be there. I need this functionality back.

Thanks!
