What it says on the tin, basically. I switched from disposable razors to a double-edged safety razor to try to cut down on disposable plastic waste, and I'm generally happy with it except for one thing--it shaves my legs well, but I can't seem to get rid of armpit hair as easily. Help! What am I doing wrong?
I switched to a safety razor after not wanting to put more plastic in the waste stream, and I'm happy with it, generally. I have no problem getting a close, nick-free shave with my legs. I lather with a moisturizing bar soap before shaving, and I am aware of the advice not to press too hard and just let the weight of the razor glide over the area. I change the blades when they get dull.
However, when it comes to shaving my armpits, it's a different story. I didn't seem to have this trouble when I first started, but lately, even with a fresh, brand-new sharp blade, I cannot seem to get the hairs that are tucked into the...innermost? Most recessed? part of my armpit. It is worse with my right pit. I am right-handed so I assume it's my technique rather than the razor. (Yes, I have read the previous AskMes on safety razors, but none answered my particular issue.)
I have thick, fast-growing, coarse black armpit and leg hair. I shave my legs maybe once a week for most of the year, and every other day in summer. I shave armpits daily or every other day. I should clarify: I think everyone should do whatever they want with their own body hair, but I personally like clean-shaven pits on myself.
Help! How do I improve my technique?? The other day I was in despair because my stupid right armpit had over a centimetre's worth of growth, which meant I hadn't been able to successfully shave it for over a week. I broke down and used one of the leftover disposables I had hanging around, but I really don't want to go back to disposables. I like my safety razor! But I want it to actually work. |
