Is my town recycling legitimately?

My town contracts a third-party to pick up both trash and recycling, and I have noticed that the service uses one truck and loads both the trash bin and the recycling bin into the same truck and the same space on that truck and then crushes it all together. Is this a legitimate way to recycle?
Before I call the town and inquire, is there something about recycling I'm not understanding? For example, do they put all of the trash and recycling together and then sort it at the station/plant?
I am 100% certain that the trash collector is putting everything together into one truck and mashing it all together. I have it on video. I called the town a while ago about this and they said there were two separate spaces on the truck that each bin was loaded into, but this is definitely not the case.
This can't be legit, right? Or am I missing something here about the recycle process? We are single stream. |
