Volunteer opportunities for retired folk in Chicago

My retired friend in the Chicago area is bored at home and looking for a productive, meaningful part-time work or volunteer opportunities. Any ideas?

They do not have formal work experience in the recent past, although decades ago were a lawyer, speechwriter, and author. Brilliant writer, somewhat cynical, fluent in French, great with kids and very outgoing/able to make friends everywhere. Complication: does not love taking orders or "authority," and does not have much tolerance for spirituality or woo. For health reasons, probably best if opportunities are virtual or outdoors. Unpaid is fine if the work feels useful, and ideally it would have some social component to combat coronavirus-related isolation. Thanks!
