Career change for a jaded developer

I've been a professional full-stack web developer for 20 years – and I want out. What fields require similar skills?
I love to code – but professional web development (in my experience) is 98% applying duct tape to legacy spaghetti code. It's impossible to do work that I can be proud of, or that realizes my potential – and that's completely depressing and demoralizing. I'm done. I want to change careers.
So: what fields should I be looking into?
I'm good with technical stuff, obviously. I'm also good with language and communication, particularly when it's written. I get satisfaction from designing and implementing clean, efficient, flexible systems, and from finding ways to articulate and explain ideas.
I'm definitely an introvert. I'm not interested in any kind of management. I'd prefer not to travel for work. Being a QA engineer sounds boring.
I might be willing to take a modest pay cut, if it'll help me keep my sanity.
Any ideas? |
