suddenly, capsaicin is bitter!?

Suddenly, in the last week or two, anything with capsaicin (chili pepper) spiciness has started tasting strongly bitter to me. I love spicy food and now I'm enjoying it less because of this. What's going on?

I haven't started any new medications recently. I did just get a new vaccination I hadn't ever had before, and I'm not certain whether this phenomenon started before or after Shingrix, but that seems like a particularly unlikely cause. I couldn't turn anything up in google about acquired capsaicin taste changes or the like.
