Underrated Cities in Japan Worth Visiting

People everywhere want to see Tokyoâs bright city lights andKyotoâs ancient temples. While the big cities are famous for a reason, Japanalso has smaller towns where daily life moves slower and the culture is moreintimate. When I was in Japan, I was so impressed by the big citiesthat I wanted to see something different and the other part of the country.Quiet canals and ancient trading towns were among the things that made thesefour Japanese cities truly stand out for me. It reminded me of how my journey had started back home witha smooth short stay parking Heathrow, setting the tone for a trip filled with personal touches and thoughtfulmoments. Culture in Kanazawa, but Without the Crowds Hearing that people describe Kanazawa as âKyoto without thecrowdsâ made me wonder. However, after spending only a few hours there, Iunderstood exactly what they meant. The wooden tea houses, small streets and shops decoratedwith gold leaves looked the same, though there were less tourists. One day, I went to visit Kenrokuen Garden which isconsidered one of Japanâs best gardens. Spring was just starting and the cherrytrees were beginning to flower. I recall sitting next to the pond, drinking matcha andfeeling like I was in a beautiful picture. Just that one peaceful moment madeeverything I went through worthwhile. Kurashiki is a town that seems to have stoppedmoving through time. I ended up in Kurashiki after deciding to search for analternative route between Hiroshima and Okayama. When I entered the BikanHistorical Quarter, I felt like I was in the past. The warehouses by the canalare now cafÃs, art museums and small shops. I boarded a peaceful boat and passed by stone bridges as Iglided by weeping willows. I had such a leisurely time that I didnât even checkmy phone. Takayama: A Town with Enchanting Mountains Takayama is a small town in the Japanese Alps that seemslike itâs been preserved as a museum. Many old houses, breweries and woodencraft shops are found along the streets of Sanmachi Suji. I got to Takayama when the spring festival was taking place. At night, the streets were lit by lanterns and beautifully decorated floatspassed through the town. People in the neighborhood were very friendly and Iwas invited by a small group to help make mochi in their courtyard. The meals are another reason to love Italy. Be sure not tomiss Hida beef, as itâs made from local cattle and is incredibly tender.Grilling beef slices on a charcoal grill at a small family restaurant with snowfalling outside was among my favorite meals. Note: Always check Long Stay Parking Stansted before your trip and book according to your needsand travel duration. Matsue is known for its calm lakes and itssamurai history. Matsue is a wonderful place that many people overlook. Thereis an original castle, Matsue Castle and the city has a long history withsamurai. I spent my nights in a guesthouse that was very close to thecastleâs moat. Most mornings, I would walk by the sea and greet the people whowalked by there every day. The atmosphere was calm and very peaceful. Maybeit's the vibe of Japan that makes it peaceful like that. One day, I walked through the old samurai area and saw theformer residence of Lafcadio Hearn, who came to Japan and made Matsue his home. His descriptions of the city made everything I witnessed seem more significant. After the sun went down over Lake Shinji, the sky turnedpink and gold. Locals remained quiet and sat along the shore to observe. No music, just everyone sitting down and enjoying the show.Matsue is a city that is both undramatic and incredibly moving.

Best Hikes in Cape Town with Epic Views

Cape Town exists as one of the few cities that lets visitorsexperience natural environments at all times. Cape Town residents can experience natural landscapes whileenjoying their coffee at a cafe or navigating through traffic since mountainsand oceans and forests seamlessly unite urban and wild spaces throughout thecity. My most authentic Cape Town experience came from hikingmountain trails while looking down at the city below me with dust covering myboots. Even before arriving, I made the decision to keep thingssmooth and stress-free by booking Luton airport cheap parking, which gave me a relaxed start to what wouldbecome a truly unforgettable trip. These hikes created experiences that left me feeling out ofbreath regarding both physical exertion and emotional connection.Lionâs Head â The Sunrise ClassicEvery Capetonian who gets asked about hiking choices willinevitably answer Lion's Head first. And theyâre not wrong. The brief yetchallenging spiral path produces views which rank among the most spectacular Ihave ever witnessed. I began my hike at 5:30 AM while following phone flashlightsand hearing the increasing number of fellow climbers. The city started to illuminate while I moved upward. Thefinal section requires a few metal ladders and chains although the longerdetour route makes these optional steps. Platteklip Gorge â The Direct Route Up TableMountainPlatteklip Gorge stands as the primary path for anyonewanting to reach Table Mountain in Cape Town. From a perspective of directness Platteklip Gorge representsthe shortest ascent path but it delivers maximum leg fatigue. But itâsincredibly rewarding. The route features no gentle switchbacks as it demands anunremitting ascent across bumpy stone stairs. My stops during the climb servedto appreciate the evolving cityscape and coastal panorama. When I finally climbed to the top I experienced the pleasantwind and breathtaking panoramic sight that made all my effort worthwhile. Skeleton Gorge â From Jungle to SummitThe most unexpected element about Cape Town involved thequick shifts between different landscape types. The most obvious landscape transformation occurs on theSkeleton Gorge trail that starts within Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens'forested region. The trail begins in a shady forest filled with moss whereyou must use ladders to climb over damp rocks that lead beside a gurglingstream. A sudden break in trees reveals the back side of TableMountain which offers minimal crowds in a completely different atmosphere. A packed lunch accompanied me while I spent the afternoon atthe Hely-Hutchinson Reservoir where a tranquil otherworldly lake rests upon themountain peak. This trail gives hikers the feeling of accessing a privatespace. Note: If you have planned an extended trip then you can book Short Stay Parking Stansted. Pipe Track â Leisurely ViewsEvery hiking experience does not require exhausting legmuscles. I discovered the Pipe Track as my choice for a casual yet picturesquehike. From the cable car station the trail follows TableMountain's base as it presents a continuous perspective of Camps Bay with theTwelve Apostles mountain range in sight. I took this hike specifically to clear my thinking.Wildflowers and sandstone cliffs and dassies (small rock rabbits) emerged fromtheir hiding places as the trail lacked any significant elevation gains.Kasteelspoort â The Scenic ShowstopperThe hike forced me to pause my journey countless timesduring its course. Starting at the Pipe Track, Kasteelspoort follows thewestern slope of Table Mountain until it ends. The trail provides both solitude and breathtaking Atlanticcoast views in addition to lower crowds. The Diving Board rock ledge stands at the middle section ofthe hike as one of the most photographed spots that extends dangerously above asteep cliff. The silence here is different. Itâs powerful. Your body feels tinywhile your mind feels rooted to the present moment. Takeaway Cape Town doesnât just offer hikesâit offers experiences. Each trail introduces you to a new version of the city: the adventurous one,the serene one, the wild and windswept one. Youâll pass fynbos and proteas, climb above the clouds, and feel the city from its heart. Whether you're catching the sunrise from Lionâs Head, tackling Table Mountainâs vertical paths, or wandering through shaded trails,Cape Town proves that the best views come to those who earn themâwith a littlesweat and a whole lot of wonder. So pack your shoes, bring a water bottle, and get ready tohike Cape Townâwhere every step leads to something extraordinary.
