Phone storage driving me loco

The podcast app is showing the largest amount of storage, but I only subscribe to 8 podcasts and episodes are never downloaded. Help!

My phone won't update to the next OS due to low storage. Podcasts are taking up 43 GB (!?) out of 128 GB total. I've offloaded the app, downright deleted it. Nothing changes. (I have iCloud turned on but I really don't understand how it works). Any clue why the Podcast app is hogging so much space, and how to fix this
