Tell me about barre classes

I recently took a barre class for the first time and enjoyed it a lot. What's been your experience with barre classes? And what should I be looking for in studios, instructors, etc?

I'm generally pretty bad at sticking with any exercise except classes or weightlifting, and for reasons beyond the scope of the question, I'm not able to do weighlifting at a gym right now. As I said, I really enjoyed the barre class and have signed up for five more. If you've taken barre for any length of time, how has it affected you physically? Are you happy with it over time? Has it changed the way your body looks, either by building muscle or giving you better posture?

Also, there are about one zillion barre places near me; right now I'm signed up at Pure Barre, but there's also Bar Method and a couple of independent places. Is there one you'd recommend, or conversely, one you'd recommend I avoid? (I'm in NYC.)

You can see I have a fiery curiousity. Thank you for any advice!
