In the beginning, we had thought of hiring two different cars from Delhi. However, when we considered our expenses, luggage capacity, and the comfort of our elderly family members, we came to know that it would be quite hard to travel in different cars. One of my cousins suggested that we could rent Tempo Traveller in Delhi, and indeed, we did.
The Journey Begins from Delhi
Our trip began at 10 p.m. from Delhi. The weather was nice, and everybody was happy. As we all were traveling together in a single vehicle, the fun began from the very first hour of our travel.
My grandmother had prepared homemade parathas and pickles for us, and we were enjoying them even before reaching Ghaziabad. Younger cousins were preparing their playlist, whereas other adults were sharing stories of the past.
All this would not have been possible if we had traveled separately in different cars.
Midnight Tea at Muzaffarnagar
Around midnight, we took a halt at Muzaffarnagar to have some tea and snacks. All of us stretched our legs and had some hot tea.
The grandpas were thankful for the comfortable seats, which gave them the flexibility to move around comfortably. The driver was also very experienced with the entire Char Dham circuit.
Everyone got a good sleep after this brief stoppage.
Morning in Haridwar
We reached Haridwar early in the morning and ate our breakfast in one of the local restaurants. Our breakfast included poha, parathas, and hot tea, which provided us with the energy to trek in the mountains.
The best part of traveling in a Tempo Traveller was that there would be no need to drive. We could relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of the river Ganga and the mountains.
The Beautiful Drive Through Uttarakhand
As we traversed through Rishikesh and headed to Devprayag, the sightseeing became mesmerizing.
We took numerous stops for picture taking and felt the coolness of the wind blowing from the mountains. As we traveled together, each stop was like having a picnic.
The kids were playing, the elders were telling stories, and everyone was having fun with every stop we made.
Unexpected Rain Near Rudraprayag
The situation got a little tough when we approached Rudraprayag since it began raining heavily, making the traffic flow really slow.
Several small vehicles found themselves stuck in this difficult situation due to their narrowness. This made us anxious since we had a booking at Guptkashi that same evening.
Fortunately, our well-experienced driver kept his cool and knew other ways around the tough areas of the route.
It was then that we felt the importance of hiring a well-experienced Tempo Traveller in Delhi with a good mountain driver.
Reaching Guptkashi Safely
We finally arrived at Guptkashi very late in the evening.
Everybody was exhausted; however, the soft seating made traveling such a long distance comparatively easy for us. My grandparents, who get tired easily on trips by road, looked unusually fresh.
Our bags, backpacks, blankets, and foodstuffs were carried with ease in the vehicle. If we had taken small cars, we wouldn't have been able to carry all this luggage.
The Trek to Kedarnath
On the following day, we headed towards Sonprayag and thereafter came to Gaurikund to begin our Kedarnath trek.
Our elder members hired ponies, whereas the younger members chose trekking.
The trip to Kedarnath was difficult yet beautiful. There were waterfalls, mountains, and chanting of “Har Har Mahadev,” which added beauty to the entire ambience.
After some time, we arrived at the temple.
When we witnessed the Kedarnath Temple surrounded by mountains, our tiredness vanished.
Darshan of Baba Kedarnath
It was indeed an emotionally charged experience for all of us to stand before Baba Kedarnath.
There were tears in my grandma’s eyes because it was always her dream.
We had the aarti in the evening and stayed overnight near the temple.
The aura of the place cannot be explained in words.
The Return Journey
Our darshan completed, we began descending the next day.
We were tired.
Once we got into the parking lot and found our waiting Tempo Traveller, it actually felt as if we were seeing an old acquaintance.
We immediately felt comfortable sitting in the seats that had space between them and felt cool.
Some slept, some discussed the journey, and some exchanged pictures and videos from the journey.
The Tempo Traveller That Made Our Kedarnath Yatra Successful
Why the Tempo Traveller Saved Our Kedarnath Yatra
On reflection, hiring a Tempo Traveller was definitely the best choice we made for the pilgrimage.
Here is how it helped us:
• Travelled together as a group.
• Our elders were comfortable throughout the journey.
• There was enough room for our luggage.
• We didn’t need to take care of several cars.
• The seasoned driver drove us safely on the mountainous roads.
• We made memories as one family along the way.
Beyond just getting to Kedarnath, the entire journey became memorable because we traveled together the entire time.
Final Thoughts
To date, whenever we all meet as a family, we recount our Kedarnath Yatra. We remember the midnight tea, the mountain roads, the rains at Rudraprayag, and our tear-filled darshan of Baba Kedarnath.
However, there is one thing on which everybody does agree:
Without booking our separate car, we wouldn't have made such an unforgettable journey!
At times, the vehicle that we travel in makes such a significant difference in the story of our travels. In our case, our Tempo Traveller did make a significant difference and saved our Kedarnath Yatra.
