With Path of Exile 3.29 still sitting in that awkward pre-reveal fog, nobody has the full picture yet. GGG has only locked in the July 16 reveal and the July 24 launch, so any serious planning has to be careful. Players are already watching build guides, stash tabs, and POE Currency trends, but right now the best move is reading old balance habits rather than pretending we've got patch notes in hand.
  • Projectile and flask scaling look like the riskiest areas.
  • Melee, bleed, and strike skills have the clearest buff case.
  • Deadeye and Pathfinder may lose some easy power.
  • Trickster, Hierophant, and Necromancer still look fairly safe.
Passive Tree Pressure PointsWhere the first cuts may land
You can usually tell where GGG's eyes are pointed by looking at what players keep league-starting. Projectile wheels have carried too many fast mappers for too long. Lightning Arrow, Elemental Hit, Tornado Shot, and Kinetic Blast all benefit when the tree gives cheap damage, speed, and clear. If there's a nerf, it probably won't delete those builds. More likely, it'll make chain, fork, or raw projectile damage cost a few more points.
Passive Area Expected Change Risk
Projectile Clusters Nerf Very High
Flask Clusters Nerf High
Poison Masteries Nerf High
Melee Weapon Clusters Buff Very High
Melee May Get Another PushBleed and strike builds need help
Melee has had plenty of "this time it'll work" moments, so players are right to be sceptical. Still, bleed and strike skills are in a spot where even small passive tree changes could matter. Axe clusters, bleed wheels, and strike masteries are obvious candidates. A bit more attack speed, better ailment scaling, or easier splash could make league-start melee feel less clunky without turning it into old-school screen-wide nonsense.
  • Axe clusters could gain cleaner attack speed or ailment support.
  • Bleed wheels may receive stronger multipliers or better mastery choices.
  • Strike skills need practical mapping help, not just tooltip damage.
  • Slayer and Gladiator would benefit most from a grounded melee pass.
Ascendancy Watch ListSome favourites may lose comfort
Deadeye is the easy name here. It clears fast, scales well, and feels good with very little setup. That's exactly why it keeps drawing attention. Pathfinder is a different problem. Flask uptime, poison scaling, and defensive recovery make it feel too reliable in too many formats. If both get trimmed, they'll still be playable, but players may need better gear or tighter pathing to reach the same power.
Ascendancy Likely Direction Player Read
Deadeye Nerf Still strong, less free speed
Pathfinder Nerf Flask and poison checks likely
Gladiator Buff Bleed or block revival possible
Chieftain Buff Needs clearer fire identity
League Start PlanningSafe picks beat brave guesses
Until the manifesto and tree data arrive, I'd avoid building around one fragile interaction. Trickster ES setups, Hierophant Archmage, Necromancer minions, and basic Slayer melee all look easier to adjust if the patch shifts hard. Traders will also be watching early prices, sometimes using POE 1 Currency for sale listings as a rough market signal, but the better approach is staying flexible until Path of Building catches up.
