For instance, if you're coding 90832 (16–37 minutes) rather than 90834 (38–52 minutes) when your session obviously is in the upper range, you're leaving money on the table. It may appear obvious, but improper or cautious use of codes can decrease your total collections, even when your claim acceptance ratio is good.
The net collection rate, in case you're not familiar with it, gauges how much you really collect compared to what you're contractually due—billed but not necessarily collected. So if you're undercoding or experiencing a high number of denials from CPT mismatches, your net collection rate will accurately reflect that.
