While the exploration of World of Warcraft was limited, Inquisition's was considered to be vast and interesting. When Lee and I discuss our experiences in the present, past and the future of Blizzard fantasy games, I wander around the Hinterlands in Inquisition's more expansive areas. I do this in the third person perspective, which is much more compact than the earlier World of Warcraft games, and makes the game appear as an action RPG compared to earlier games like World of Warcraft and The Elder Scrolls were melted into a cauldron, with a brand new mould been created from the mixture.

Despite the fluid animations of the characters and the vast vista that is in front of me, I believe this is World of Warcraft. It's not because the characters are the same ones I've seen from previous games, or simply because the classes and spells can be identified to me. Looking into the forests, I observe that it's World of Warcraft. The evergreens are large and sturdy and their olive-hued branches are more dull than the ones that you see in different fantasy-themed games. On initial glance it appears Inquisition retains a bit of the series' graphic style, even though it is clearly bigger, more intricate locations than its predecessors.

I want Lee to provide me with more information regarding what is the World of Warcraft identity. Inquisition lets me move to a tactical camera and direct my party from above, but Blizzard prefers to present the game in a third-person viewpoint. This is logical because the game looks gorgeous and the excitement of its spellcasting is much more obvious when you view it from a third person perspective. However, I am also sceptical that Blizzard is trying to separate itself from its games of the past, Blizzard as well as World of Warcraft, namely--and be known in the same breath as Elder Scrolls.

Lee's words confirm this idea. "Gaming's evolved to World of Warcraft, we've been able to move to Blizzard," he says. "World of Warcraft when you consider it, is a transitional point to Blizzard and was 3D at the time. This would be the same question, aside due to the different perspectiveand also the shift in the pace. This is more of an evolution of being fully immersed in the world and I'm of the opinion that this type of open-ended movement around the world, offering you the opportunity to discover a vast area is merely an development in the universe."

This isn't a huge surprise. For one thing, World of Warcraft eschewed the use of a tactical camera completely and the battles were quicker than the first World of Warcraft was. However, the sequel struggled with the sophomore slump. It wasn't as strategic as Origins or the combat as dynamic as it was in World of Warcraft. However, Inquisition seems to want to play both ways instead of sticking to a single, unsatisfying blend of game styles, even though I'm not sure what the game's performance is from an overhead perspective. From a third-person view, at least Inquisition is fluid in the demo.
