"That's been a really strange thing," says Alex Mayberry in the morning prior to the the game's transformative expansion, Reaper of Souls. I ask him about the experience to see Diablo become so closely linked to a sense of unsatisfaction. "I am not sure if it gets too much emphasised. Who are we as a vocal minority and what is that number? Even if it's one percent or two percent, that's a lot of people."

Two percent of unhappy Diablo players is 280.000 people. That's a lot of angry comments. "It's been hard to distinguish all the voices in the cacophony that is so loud," Mayberry adds.

Reaper of Souls launches tomorrow with new loot-dropping methods and a brand new Crusader model, a fresh level 70 cap and an Adventure Mode, and the removal of that controversial Auction House. The majority of the changes to its mechanics were incorporated into the vanilla game in patch 2.0.1. But the general principle is that players be able to collect more diverse loot frequently. The general response is positive. "It's good to have people reacting to modifications," Mayberry says, "and I believe the changes are fantastic."

"We know we're in a favorable position as we want to play frequently," he added. "There's a lot of excitement and we're anxious to hear what the players are going to say. "Leading the charge on Reaper of Souls is Josh Mosqueira who was appointed his role as the game's director at the end of June of 2013. Mayberry spoke about the impact his choices have had on the game. "Josh was in and really encouraged Adventure Mode and the dynamic difficulty system.

Opening up the game. Jay Wilson (former game director] was very focused on making sure that we had the Diablo experience down, and Josh's goal has been how can we improve the experience? We had to make some pretty major changes to do the things Josh wanted to do, and it was definitely one of those things that when we've done this, there's no way back. There was some anxiety in the beginning, as we began developing the plan, but it eventually came together really well."
