Like any good MMO like any other good MMO, the goal of RuneScape changes drastically between players. Maybe you'd like to finish every single one of the more than 200 quests that will earn you Legendary Hero status. Perhaps you're looking to learn at least one of 28 skills to earn the famed Skill Mastery cape. Perhaps you'd like to earn billions by flipping things on in the Grand Exchanges.

It's possible to be an asshole and kill characters in the open, too. And that's not even including the mini-games or world events, battles, holidays, and duels. Of course, the sport is huge. It's apparent Jagex has not stopped making improvements to Gielinor. There's a multitude of new game titles, the most recent of which is RuneScape Mobile, which launches July 17.

It was quite overwhelming to go back to the RuneScape Grand Exchange and see people dressed in armor and wielding swords that seemed to summon god-killing power and smash my old, high-gloss dragon's armour, and an abyssal whip (that'd be impressive if you played in the days of my youth kids).

Even the menus were different as it turned out the friendly folks at Jagex set up a lot of assistance for players who are old, including a legacy menu mode. In another nod to old players, I delighted to find out that when I visited Lumbridge and spoke with Hans who was a famous NPC from the start, he could reward me with the option of a five, 10 one-year veterans cape. The cape of 15 years is something worth seeing; it's got fire burning in the bottom.

After being so overwhelmed, I decided to focus on a life-long dream of mine to master the art of firemaking. Skills mastery takes hours and hours of repetitive actions to reach level 99 (now 120 in a variety of skills) In the end, it gives you the coveted cape of an expert. The cape has been trimmed. It's bright.
