Possibly Dodgy Paradigm-Shifting Mega Theories

I'm trying to compile a list of improbably brash, would-be paradigm-shifting, broadly integrative theories from otherwise brilliant and respected figures that have been neither definitively/universally proven nor disproven.

It's been a while since I took a history of science class, but two examples that spring to mind are Wolfram's "A New Kind of Science" and Poe's "Eureka: A Prose Poem"

I'm not interested in 1. widely-rejected humbug, 2. clever theories patently disproven by later work, or 3. universally acknowledged actual paradigm-shifters (e.g. Einstein's relativity, Copernicus's spheres, Heisenberg's uncertainty). Nor am I interested in debate re: the validity of Wolfram or Poe's work.
