Another job dilemma where I can't see the wood for the trees.
I started a new job around two months ago, a part-time admin job. I am new to this kind of work and was thrown in the deep end as both my manager and co-worker (I am in a support role to this co-worker) went off with Covid within my first few days. During the past seven weeks, I have been mainly covering my co-worker's workload but had to keep asking for guidance and direction from more senior colleagues.
My co-worker returned last week and since then there has been very little for me to do. My co-worker told me that she told the managers that she didn't need any support as there wasn't enough work for her to do and she had to reduce her working hours because of this (well before I was hired). She also thinks that I shouldn't have to cover for her when she is off as I am two pay bands below her. She asked me if there were no other jobs for me to apply for elsewhere....
Everyone in this office knows there is very little work for me to do. The colleague with who I share an office space is constantly commenting on it. My manager's manager knows there isn't much for me to do but they seem to want someone there for when my co-worker is absent/to cover her non-working days. My contract is currently fixed term for 6 months, however, my manager's manager told me within my first few weeks that she hoped to make my role permanent if I wanted to stay (don't know if that is still the case)
I feel very much like a spare part, and they are all waiting for me to leave of my own accord.
