Help me not be SAD

I finally decided to get a light therapy lamp (the Wirecutter-recommended Boxelite) for my Seasonal Affective Disorder for years. I feel like it just ... doesn't do anything. Am I doing something wrong? Should I try another model? Is there any hope for me?
I live in Northern California so our winters are not terrible, but I feel depressed and foggy and gross whenever it is overcast. I feel immediately better as soon as the sun comes out. Seems like textbook SAD. (I also am prone to regular old depression.)
I think I'm using it correctly: I put the lamp on my desk, to the side of my monitor, and slowly worked up to using it for an hour or more at a time on days when it's gray out.
If you have SAD, I'd love to hear what worked or didn't work for you, how long it took for light therapy to make a difference, and any other tips. |
