Looking for a paperback compendium of puns, jokes, and riddles for children, published between 1965 and 1985 (give or take), featuring Mr. Punch on the cover.
In my memory, this is a slim, inexpensive paperback, maybe 8" by 8". The cover is mustard yellow with cranberry red print, and the single image is of a late-Victorian Mr. Punch (this image conveys the sensibility of the drawing I remember on the cover, though I think I remember images of Punch sprinkled throughout the book, almost like Dover clip art). The book itself was packed with riddles, puns, and maybe puzzles? I remember it as having a verbal, rather than mathematical, orientation, and it was for children--although I think of it as having an older diction, maybe to go with the Punch/Victorian theme. It was akin to an Arrow Book, or a Scholastic, or a Dover. Help? |
