We have a 12-year-old who, like many others, is stuck at home with nothing to do for the summer. He does luckily have access to a young adult who could help with any projects that need supervision and could otherwise act akin to a summer camp counselor. He's interested in "making things from scratch", like making soap using lye. What are some projects he could do?

He has limited internet usage time, but I'm happy to buy any books for research and any supplies. For example, I've gotten him a book on soap-making and sourdough-making already, as well as a melt-and-pour soap-making kit.

Please don't feel the need to limit your suggestions to things that can be made from scratch -- he has all summer and there's only so many projects in that category. I offer it as a suggestion of things he likes. He's also interested in robots and games both board- and video-, but dislikes anything that feels too educational (such as learning to code or learning about circuits).

Here are 3 projects he came up with himself:
- Making soap from scratch (i.e., with lye)
- Make a remote that can trigger a air conditioner
- Make a cake from scratch
