Language Slow-Learning

I speak decent Spanish, and need to learn Portuguese. But my mind doesn't retain stuff I've formally studied. Knowledge inputs easily, but doesn't stick long term. So my plan is to slow it all down and really churn/obsess over just three vocabulary words and one conjugation form per day. Return to the micro lesson du jour (something my mind IS good at) over the course of a day. Make sense? Any add-on suggestions?

Obviously, I'll also need to do refreshers. Maybe use Duolingo or a flash card app to keep retouching previous material. I'll have to see how my time divides between the micro-lesson du jour and the refreshments.
