When (and how) do I get off the make-up train?

I just turned 65 and realized I've been wearing make-up almost every day for over fifty years! Inspired by this question about letting one's hair revert to its natural gray color, I'm looking for advice about when women generally quit wearing make-up and best practices for stopping.

Due to dark eye circles, almost invisible eyelashes and eyebrows, but acne-prone skin, I wear only eye make-up (concealer, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, and mascara) and a bit of blusher. No foundation or lipstick. But as I age, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to steady my hands enough to avoid making a mess of the application, and no matter how carefully and lightly I apply the concealer it seems to settle into the fine lines I can no longer deny having. And I definitely don't want to become one of *those* ladies who look like Bette Davis in "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane". So enlighten me please: when is it time to give up make-up, and how do I do it? Do I quit cold turkey, only wear it for special occasions, taper down to just a bare minimum, or what? Women of Metafilter who have reached this point, what did you do and how did you decide? (If it matters, I still color my hair.)
